( WSVN )- While most of us likely view doing our laundry as a chore, for others, it is an extravagance. A South Florida team is assisting in washing those problems ahead because some people can no longer afford the cost of keeping their clothing clean. Yesterday’s 7 Light is hosted by Karen Hensel.
Imagine going for days without a clear blanket or piece of clothing. For some South Florida people, it is a reality.
” They do n’t make enough money, especially with the cost of rent, food, and everything else,” says Love South Florida Laundry coordinator Rich Markiewicz.
Love South Florida Laundry’s representative is Prosperous Markiewicz. It is a company that offers free laundry services to low-income and poor families.
He had the thought four years ago after speaking with a church president.
Rich Markiewicz:” She told us about the things they did to assist the local bad and unemployed.” What would you do if there was one thing you could do that you do n’t already do? I questioned her. ” Cleaning garments for our customers,” she continued.
After doing some studies, he discovered the National Laundry Love Association.
” I was convinced that I wanted to sort of rebuild what they were doing,” said Rich Markiewicz.
Love South Florida Laundry was founded by Rich and members of his religion.
The group donates money and detergent so that people can wash their clothes at a Laundromat in Hollywood once per quarter.
We do better to 300, 400 loads of laundry per month, so it’s increased significantly, says Rich Markiewicz.
Pompano Beach and Fort Lauderdale are two additional settlements that Rich just expanded Love South Florida Laundry to.
Billy Salter assisted with the Fort Lauderdale location’s build next month.
Billy Salter:” To be able to contribute in some way to supporting the people in the community means a great deal to me.”
The Laundromat was packed for three hours because visitors could wash their clothes, shoes, and also bedding for completely.
Ashley Kendrick, a Laundry Love host, says,” This year it helped me feel lighter, and I’m really grateful.”
More than a few people washed and dried their clothes in the first hour only.
I have been unemployed for 14 years, says Kerry Herndon, a Laundry Love visitor. Truly, this is a gift, do you understand what I mean? to maintain our good appearance.
Billy claims it was heartbreaking to see so many people in need of assistance.
Billy Salter:” We’re not doing anything particularly significant, but we are trying to get someone to travel in and visit us so that we can help them get fresh clothes and left feeling like they have a little more respect than when they came.”
Rich claims that many of the visitors leave the Laundromat with a renewed sense of hope in addition to being given fresh garments in their baskets and free food.
And just the fact that you can sleep on clean bedsheets and have fresh clothes to put on in the morning is wonderful, says Rich Markiewicz.
A small like can go a long way for so many people.
