To create a circular economy for clothing, eBay UK reduces the price of pre-owned clothing.

April 9, 2024

Beginning today ( 8 April ), eBay UK will no longer charge individual sellers to sell fashion goods, encouraging more money to be spent while supporting circular fashion.

All pre-owned clothes will be offered for free, including everything from products that have been worn before, frequently, to brand-new items that have tags on and have never been worn. Even if adult fashion listings were listed before April 8th, sellers will gain from free selling.

New research has revealed that 70 % of the population wears 50 % or less of their wardrobe on a daily basis in conjunction with eBay’s move. 92 % of people claim to have worn more than one piece of clothing in the last year.

We’ll help to keep more garments from landfill by encouraging more people to purchase and sell pre-owned items, thereby enabling a circular economy for style.

Despite this, just 25 per cent of the state sells their unwelcome clothing. The average consumer keeps on accumulating more than £400 worth of clothing that they do n’t wear, which means shoppers are missing out on potentially lucrative deals. As a result, it’s estimated that the nation is sitting on £16.3 billion worth of clothing that they do n’t wear.

According to auction, encouraging more people in the country to purchase and sell pre-owned clothing is essential to creating a circular economy for style.

In 2023, through the purchase of pre- loved style, auction saved over 1.6 million kilograms of spend going to landfill, similar to the weight of more than 4 million shirts. Every second, 5 pre-loved clothes, 2 pairs of pre-loved trousers, and 8 pre-loved tops are sold on eBay in the UK, making eBay and eBay UK a million dollars.

For a country with billions of pounds worth of unnecessary clothing, Kirsty Keoghan, public director of global trend for eBay, “free fashion marketing has come at the right time.”

We are aware that selling clothing can occasionally feel like a chore, but completely selling and fresh updates like new AI-powered listings will make it easier for more of us to sell clothing.
