When then 28-year-old Emily Elizabeth Creighton’s mother, Amy Astrauskas, was dying, she had one desire.
In 2021, Astrauskas was battling Stage 4 inflammatory and she did n’t have a positive prognosis. Knowing she likely would n’t live to walk her then-single daughter down the aisle, Astrauskas, who loved to plan and host events, wanted to take part in her daughter’s wedding the only way she could. So she suggested they get dress shopping.
Creighton’s mother scheduled an appointment at Free Love Bridal in Cape May, New Jersey, despite the fact that she was solitary.
” She lied and said I was getting married”! Creighton, laughing.
In a tickling Instagram video that’s then gone viral, Creighton shared the whole story.
She narrated over a slideshow of images from the entertaining, memorable day, saying,” My mother knew she was about to go away, so she called the bridal shop, lied, and said I was getting married just so she could own her dying desire of seeing me in a marriage dress.” They made me pour vodka and elicited the most in-depth inquiries about my future husband. My bridal gown of dreams has indeed been found, but it will remain a mystery if I ever decide to tie the knot. Actually, one of my funniest and saddest experiences, but now that she’s gone, I can claim that she assisted me in choosing my wedding dress.
Creighton described the dress as” classic,” with pockets and buttons down the back.
” As soon as I put it on, we were like,’ Yup, this is it,'” she said. ” My father, you can see him in the picture. He’s like, sleep on the sofa. He had no curiosity. But my mother was just in her splendor”.
Astrauskas wanted Creighton to buy the dress, but she said she just could n’t justify the cost. She did put it on hold. Decades later, in March of 2021, Astrauskas died.
” On her deathbed she was like,’ I think you should go get the dress. I think you should have it,'” Creighton said.
Creighton said she intends to use all the wedding details that she and Astrauskas planned together, including “fabulous” wedding bands and red peonies, when she does satisfy her person. Just one point may change.
” My mother believed that the man standing at the end of the hallway would be a woman”! said Creighton, who came out as gay in 2022. She would have been perfectly okay with it because she was the most lovable and accepting person. My mother never wanted me to get content.
