Second CTO: Nike Taps Amazon Fashion Exec: Report

November 24, 2023

According to a Bloomberg record, Nike has appointed Muge Erdirik Dogan, the former head of Amazon’s style division, to succeed him as chief technology officer.

Nike CEO John Donahoe emphasizes Dogan’s in-depth knowledge of how technology can speed up development and performance and spur growth in an internal message that was apparently reviewed by Bloomberg.

According to Linked In, Dogan has worked for Amazon for sixteen times, holding a variety of positions in the customer and supply departments before taking on the position of president of Amazon Fashion in 2021.

The information that Jenny Freshwater, a lifelong business veteran, would get over Dogan’s position as vice president of style and health, coincided with his immediate departure from Amazon. Water most recently served as Amazon’s vice president for traffic and advertising technology.

The financial behemoth is currently completing the shutdown of its two brick-and-mortar clothing shops in California and Ohio that sell Google Model clothing. The firm announced a strategic move last week to strengthen its e-commerce fashion business in its place.

Dogan may join Nike as the company’s investment in its modern and IT capabilities is accelerating. In response to recent intensifying online approaches that “fuel engagement with our businesses and develop strong consumer associations around the world,” CEO John Donahoe stated the company is” comfortable” and ready to “kick it into a new gear.”

According to Matt Friend, the CFO of Nike, a sizable percentage of the company’s sales are based online, making strong IT infrastructures and forward-thinking technical leadership even more crucial. Customers are spending more time in physical stores, but 90 % of their shopping trips begin online, according to Friend, who shared the information on the phone.
