Red Dress Run in New Orleans honors 30th anniversary

August 12, 2024

The Red Dress Run’s 30th anniversary is being prepared by the New Orleans Hash House Harriers ( WVUE).

This event, which will take place on August 10 at Crescent Park, is not just a race; it is a meeting that both locals and tourists adore each month. Individuals wear red dresses and outfits for a moment of running, songs, food, and joy, all while raising money for New Orleans organizations.

Bill Healy, with the New Orleans Hash House Harriers, and Emily Sparks, from the Boys and Girls Club, speak about the favorite summer function for a good reason.

Over 3, 000 people have participated in The Red Dress Run each year, and it has raised more than$ 200,000 for local causes. Last year,$ 155, 000 in grants went to various community groups.

The function starts at 9 a. m. and ends at 4 p. m.

Recently, a joke on the show’s Twitter page upset many in the LGBTQ+ neighborhood. It labeled gay individuals as “weird” and included altered images of guys in women’s clothing, gay public officials, and drag kings. The article was removed rapidly, and the webpage was temporarily frozen.

A previous Red Dress Run Board of Directors unintentionally posted a personal communication on the occasion’s Facebook page, according to the Red Dress Run Board of Directors. That posting does not at all reflect the organization’s leadership’s behaviour or ideas. We denounce all offensive or hostile remarks or behaviors toward the LGBTQ+ area. By advocating for universal fairness, we firmly believe in social justice advancement. Additionally, we are a volunteer-run, one-person business that does not engage in any kind of social or policy advocacy.
