Kylie Jenner is expanding her empire into the fashion world.
The 26-year-old star is bringing he signature sense of style to the new clothing line, Khy, and she just debuted a first look at the collection in WSJ. Magazine, which named the beauty mogul its brand innovator of the year.
For the November cover shoot, Kylie donned pieces from Khy — a unique spelling of her nickname — which she said is “really inspired by my personal wardrobe, and the different moods that I’m in.”
According to the Kardashians star, Khy’s first release is not just influenced by her own style — it is her. She described the initial drop to WSJ. Magazine as “King Kylie — who I am at my core.”
The fashion line — which Kylie previewed with a sultry Instagram post on Tuesday — is a joint venture between the Kylie Cosmetics founder, her mom, Kris Jenner, and Emma and Jens Grede. (The Gredes are also involved with Kim Kardashian’s brand Skims and Khloé Kardashian’s brand, Good American.)
While maintaining its “King Kylie” core, the 25-employee company will release collaborations with a variety of guest designers and concepts, all at an affordable price point.
Its faux-leather-focused initial drop, created in collaboration with Namilia’s Nan Li and Emilia Pfohl, is all priced under $200.
In the Katelyn Gray-styled cover shoot, Kylie models several Khy pieces, from a lacy red-and-blue slip dress to a floor-length, faux-leather trench coat, demonstrating her brand’s range along with her own.
“Creatively I have such a strong vision of what I want to look like and what I want to do and what I want to wear,” she told WSJ. Magazine. “There’s really no one telling me what to do.”
Momager and Khy co-founder Kris echoed her daughter, telling the outlet that the beauty mogul has “actually been the creative director of her life and her wardrobe since she was able to walk.”
While reflecting on the youngest Kardashian-Jenner’s childhood, Kris recalled walking into her daughter’s bedroom to the chaotic remains of her one-woman fashion shows: “boa feathers and somebody else’s high heels, one of her sister’s this or that.”
And Kylie’s relationship with fashion hasn’t changed much since her early, boa-wearing days.
“I never get too stressed about these things because… fashion is supposed to be fun,” she told WSJ. Magazine, adding: “We’re playing dress-up.”
Haider Ackermann, the designer behind Kylie’s 2023 Met Gala look, also chatted with the magazine, revealing that the Jean Paul Gaultier gown was the product of finding a middle ground between reality star’s tastes and his own.
“Our aesthetics are quite different. But to find something in between, it was just a way to honor our friendship to do this together,” he said. “She is determined. She knows what she wants. She’s very confident in the choices. But so am I.”
The designer also seconded Kylie’s claims of her “strong vision,” telling the magazine that the beauty mogul is “obviously very aware of what she likes.”
“She’s very aware of her body and how she sees things, which is very intriguing,” he added.
And while Khy may be a brand-new line, it was a long-time coming for Kylie, whose deep-rooted love of fashion is evident to everyone around her.
According to Ackermann, she has “always been very attracted” to the world of fashion and beauty — “everything that would make her world and imagination grow and be blown away.”
“She’s always been seduced by it,” he added.
