Instead, it represents an enormous constellation of presumptions, privileges, and desires. Every day, getting dressed is a way to express your identity and aspirations to the world.
This has always been known by the gay and transgender communities. Because of this, it is extremely disturbing that despite the fact that our appearance are being taken without our permission or compensation, we have been underrepresented in the fashion industry for years. The rest of the gay community has just recently been able to assert a small portion of their influence in the field, despite the fact that white gay men like Tom Ford, Michael Kors, and Giorgio Armani have huge defined what is considered fashionable. The architect Sara Lopez, who established the brand A– Organization in 2018, is a member of this emerging generation.
After working for little fashion labels in New York City for fifty years, Lopez founded A– Company. There, she gained knowledge of how to find materials, run a staff, and generate revenue. But she had always wanted to launch her personal brand. Lopez has established a name for herself over the past five decades by creating intricate, very structured clothing. She is primarily interested in items that have been worn in various ways throughout history, or what she refers to as” the archetypal wardrobe.” Classical items like a suit jacket or men’s suit become brand-new in the eyes of Lopez. She has made trench jackets that puff like summer dresses and voluptuously large uniforms in past seasons.
She not only plays with identity but also makes the audience wonder why they initially became so devoted to particular ideas about clothing. Why are the buttons on a button-down top, for instance, often positioned at the front of the chest? From there, it’s not hard to question why certain clothing items are connected to any identity at all.
