A group of kids danced, posed, and cartwheeled down the red floor at OttoTHON’s Miracle Kid Fashion Show while being supported by Una kids and family members. The children walked the airport and answered visitors questions while being accompanied by members of OttoTHON’s executive committee.
According to OttoTHON internal director Ashley Goss,” I hope ( the kids ) understand that many other people want them to succeed, be healthy, and have an amazing childhood.” ” I just want them to know that they are supported by an army of folks.”
OttoTHON’s held its first-ever Miracle Kid Fashion Show on Sunday evening in the Hall of Languages. The show’s attire was provided by the scholar clothing company Grater Things, which is run by SU top Aidan Turner. The fundraiser will receive 10 % of his sales revenue and 100 % of the money raised from OttoTHON’s merchandise.
Some kids who receive medical care at the hospital are part of Upstate Golisano’s” Miracle Kids” each year, and they collaborate with OttoTHON for special occasions and fundraisers. Every spring, OttoTHON’s fundraising efforts culminate in a party workout. Goss is in charge of both the principal occasion this spring and special events like the style show. Beyond the party marathon this year, she wanted to include activities with their “miracle families.”
There have undoubtedly been more than 12 families treated at Upstate Golisano, but ( the families present at the show ) have been like,” Hey, we want to get involved with you guys,” Goss said. ” We” collaborate with them, take them under our wing, and present their tales.
Alexa Glenny has been a member of OttoTHON for the past 12 times and is currently receiving treatment for common varying immune deficiency.
The activities OttoTHON guests, according to her mother, Alicia Glenny, are a fantastic chance for everyone to get to understand one another. The children are made to feel normal by activities like the fashion show while even accepting the team’s obvious and intangible differences.
It gives me hope, Alicia remarked. Because there are so many children in the medical every day that people are unaware of and who are struggling, it” shows that they are people who care.”

OttoTHON has been working with Natasha Farrell for three decades. She is the mother of Crosby and Miracle Kids Riley. Sickle cell disease, which Natasha described as having terrible incidents, affects both Riley, 12, and Crosby,2. She referred to it as an “invisible condition.”
The Farrells use OttoTHON as a chance to support Upstate Golisano while spreading consciousness of sickle cell disease. Riley opted to use a sweatshirt with an crescent moon on it because the design resembled spear cells.
Natasha said,” We’ve gotten to know a lot of the kids here over the years and have continued to be friends and connections with them.”
One section of a national organization that hosts party marathons all over the nation is called OttoTHON. Because she grew up close to Pennsylvania State University, which hosts one of the biggest THON activities in the nation, Goss has been involved with the event since high school.
Her great school hosted mini-thons, where the party sports were shorter than those at PSU. She knew she could improve the function in Syracuse after attending OttoTHON there in her sophomore and junior times. Before starting as domestic producer this year, she participated in special events and operations as a co-chair during her junior year.
Goss remarked,” I adore what I do, and I find it incredibly interesting that I have the chance to publish their stories on the front site.” ” I really hope that people sort of sense that energy from us and the kids and, as a result, become involved with the reason.”
According to Turner, the founder of the company Grater Things, OttoTHON is unique on school because of its accessibility.
” It brings together a wide range of folks.” Turner remarked,” You’re connecting the miracle families who either live in the area or do n’t live there; the hospitals and the community are being connected, and so are the students.”
Turner started his own high school senior year and has since expanded it into school. Grater Things held a pop-up price at the dancing marathon in his sophomore year. He worked with OttoTHON to make tote bags last year, and OttorTHONE’s fundraiser received a part of the sales revenue from those bags.
Turner’s dedication to the cause, according to Goss, is why she wanted to keep working with him. She saw this as a chance to demonstrate his determination to OttoTHON and the magic families, as well as his brand.
They must be our stars, right? Turner remarked. ” I’ve heard so many tales about the Miracle Kids, and they seem like a star to me. I’m really looking forward to getting to know them.”
