Kaleigh Slot presents her studies at the Annual Conference of the International Textile & Apparel Association

At the Annual Conference of the International Textile & Apparel Association, style, retail, and design grad student Kaleigh Slot from Charlotte, Michigan, led by her faculty assistant Su Kyoung An, presented cutting-edge research. The phrase” Adaptive Clothing for Cushioning the Slips, Trips, and Falls of Elderly Women” goes into the important area of preventing injury resulting from falls among older people.

In the old people, falls are the main cause of injury, which causes a wide range of health problems. Health alert systems can help with calling for assistance after a fall, but the damage has already occurred. The ability to mitigate these injuries through wise clothes choices is addressed by Slot’s research. The research looks at designs with built-in emergency call devices and securely fitted designs.

Slot’s inventive exploration focuses on subtly incorporating cushioning into tops and bottoms, which were exclusively made to appeal to older women. The main objectives are to incorporate a built-in emergency telephone device and cushioning the wearer during a fall.

The proposed clothes designs have a number of important functionalities. Pleasant styles that are both ideal for indoor and outdoor wear, easy access to emergency contact devices, and practical pockets for important items are included.

In the area of adaptive clothing for the old, Slot’s work opens doors to more research and development, possible revolutionizing the method of fall prevention for this group of people.
