When Edna Mendoza, co-owner of clothing boutique Apricot Lane, sees her customers in her shop’s clothing, it makes her happy. So, she’s especially looking forward to seeing her garments being modeled at an upcoming fashion show.
Mendoza, her sister/partner Denise Lopez and Apricot Lane represent just one of 40 vendors who will be showing and selling their threads and wares at the second Fashion Fusion from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8, at El Conquistador Tucson, 10000 N. Oracle Road, Oro Valley.
The show is presented by 6 Figure Success, a SoZona BNI Showcase Chapter. Cost is $20 in advance, $25 at the door. It includes entertainment, appetizers, a local business expo and a silent auction.
Mendoza and Lopez lent 12 outfits to the fundraiser. The models are mother/daughter teams, and each gets two outfits to strut down the catwalk.
“Some of the ladies (who are modeling at the show) have started coming in,” Mendoza said. “It’s neat for them to come in and try on different styles to see what works for each age group.”
Organizing the show is Eva Hendrix, who said 6 Figure Success’ first fashion show was so successful that they had to move it to a bigger venue. They need the space, too, because of the expanded business expo.
Audience members should expect to see the latest holiday fashions from Tucson and the northwest communities’ businesses for women, men and children and in all size ranges, from small to plus sizes.
“It’s the latest (fall) trends from 2024 and for the holidays,” Hendrix said.
The men’s clothing will come from Apex Tailoring Studio. The women’s and girls’ clothing comes from Dress’C, Apricot Lane, House of Josephine, Piece by Piece Wear, and True Me Inspire. Local celebrities such as Mayor Joe Winfield will model.
The expo portion will feature iBalance Spa, whose staff will provide massages. A makeup artist will be selling Mary Kay products. Stellar Wines will have holiday wine boxes for sale. These are just a few of the 40 businesses that will be there.
“We’re going to have an array of different types of businesses,” Hendrix said.
The show’s proceeds will go to the Rotary Club of Oro Valley, a member of 6 Figure Success. The organization will disperse the monies to several local nonprofits, including Interfaith Council Services (ICS).
Tom McKinney is the ICS’s chief executive officer, and he said any donation will be quickly put to good use.
“Every bit makes a difference,” he said. “We served 61,000 people last year. That number was a huge increase over the year before, and we’re trending along that same line. Any donation that we get helps us in buying people jobs. It helps us get food to people. It helps us keep seniors from being evicted. We’re always humbled by people coming forward saying, ‘Hey, we want to give you a portion of our proceeds.’ ”
Meanwhile, Mendoza is looking forward to meeting potential and current customers.
“I’m excited that they’re going to get to model (our clothes) and other people will see what we have in stock here at this location,” Mendoza said of the Broadway Boulevard boutique.
“It’s gratifying, because we see the clothes on mannequin, and it’s not quite the same as when (people) model them; it looks different.”
