The Human Development Center ( HDC ), the largest mental health service provider in Northland, and the Northwestern High School National Honor Society are working together to run a clothing drive for the month of November.
The objective is to gather items of clothing, footwear, and accessories from one’s wardrobe and place them in new residences with needy people.
There will be several places where people may drop off their clothes throughout November so that HDC employees or members of the National Honor Society you pick them up. There will be two principal drop-off points: Douglas County, where the Human Development Center is located, and Northwestern High School. Additionally, there will be drop-off locations at Tiger Nutrition in Poplar, Empower Nutrition, and Backwoods Nutrition on Iron River.
To deliver to children and young adults between the ages of 12 and 21 in need throughout the Northland, we are looking to gather brand-new, carefully used clothing items. A few years back, a survey of American women revealed that they owned roughly 103 pieces of clothing on regular. The majority of respondents also admitted that they do not often use all of their pieces. According to Boston University, there is about 100 pounds of textile waste per person in the United States each year. While it is likely that a significant portion of this waste is apparel that is no longer smart, the owner does not wear this clothing frequently.
The HDC members discussed with National Honor Society assistant Mrs. Thompson how warm-weather clothes, such as long-sleeved shirts, sweatshirts/jackets, jeans, socks, boots, etc., is most needed by the people they support. There is just a less pressing need, so they will accept different clothing items as well.

As was already mentioned, carefully used clothes is more than acceptable as long as there are no flaws, such as being worn over, having grief or cavities, or being stained. Keep in mind that we are not only recycling the garments; we also give it a second life with someone else who wants to keep it in good condition. It is probably not the best option for this payment if you are not wearing things for a purpose other than the style or match of the clothing.
Over 800 pieces of clothing may be given to teenagers and young adults in the Northland who are now in need if each high school student donated two things. I am aware that there are items in my closet that are in perfect condition other than the fact that they either no longer fit or I do n’t like the style. Please think about donating the things this coming November if anything of yours comes to mind when I say that, whether it’s a sweater or some pants.
