Every clothing I packed for the Copenhagen Fashion Week work vacation.

August 12, 2024

Some friends treat their clothing like a time to celebrate the most eccentric, over-the-top products in their closets. It’s is the unofficial start of the globe-crossing dress workout known as style month, after all, and the area is as recognized for its funny, boundary-pushing street design as its sustainability efforts. How could it not be, with manufacturers like Ganni, Cecilie Bahnsen, and calling it house?

However, I have to consider my Fashion Week city type more like a series of work-out outfits with a little character as a fashion editor who covers thirty-plus displays in four times and meets with designers the entire time. I’m not always trying to get photographed for a museum or test-drive a contentious. I’m here to signify my company and find reports. I want to look great, but I also want to look like a professional.

That does n’t mean I hit snooze on colorful outfits. Instead of dressing up for the week like a balancing act, with a dash of satisfaction for the hours I pass between shows below, a dash of pattern or a great hair laptop for some playfulness it, and some modesty because I’m running late.

Away, I’m breaking over every I packed for Copenhagen Fashion Week this year. Without compromising what I’m supposed to do, they, in my opinion, maintain the Swedish capital’s reputation for being contemporary.

The Easy Linen Outfit

In this quick fabric leading and gigantic Everlane trousers, I got off my planes and headed directly to the first round of shows.

The first day of global work journey is almost always the hardest, physically, emotionally, and sartorially. Genuine jet lag and the desire to wear underwear For this month’s first day, I had a long-distance flight from New York City, with a stopover in Iceland, right away, so I had plenty of time to get ready for Copenhagen Fashion Week. I ended up wearing Everlane pants and an oversize COS bottom at home. They’re soft and frilly, which feels intentional but as comfortable as my typical travel sweatpants. Unintentionally, Loeffler Randall’s shiny mesh cottages slipped into my step, which unintentionally coordinated with the lattice dresses, pants, and top I saw on the planes at Mark Kenly Domino Tan and A. Roege Hove, among people.

No item gets more play in my wardrobe—Copenhagen Fashion Week or otherwise—than my white poplin skirt.

I had to compete with many Copenhagen Fashion Week attendees to become the most devoted fan. They were equally prevalent in street fashion as the, appearing in everything from holey, slouchy sweaters to sequin sheer tops. Even though I’d have preferred to wear mine in pairs with only a bikini for a swim in the canal between shows, the outfit was n’t quite appropriate for all the interviews I had planned. Instead, I took another page from the Scandi playbook and matched mine to an oversized button-up and ballerina flats—plus an extra-extra large scrunchie from the for good measure. I thought the whimsical cornflower blue had a touch of whimsy that felt Copenhagen-core, but button-ups are a business casual special.

I could wear this exact outfit back home because Marie Clarie‘s offices have a corporate casual dress code. I might still opt for the heavier, sturdier loafers I had originally purchased.

The Pattern Play Outfit

I adore dresses that can carry me through adversity when I’m in a rush.

By day three at Copenhagen Fashion Week—or any work trip— I start to lose steam. The hours are long. The deadlines are tight. I need a one-and-done piece that transforms me from power-dressing mode to one that hits me like a triple espresso. That piece happens to be my all-time favorite. Instead of rummaging through my suitcase for something visually intriguing and a little vintage, this Rixo number’s mixed prints take the neutrals I love and lean on and toss them somewhere new.

I hit the track where Baum und Pferdgarten hosted its Olympics-themed show, pairing my mood-boosting outfit with pointed-toe mules and some Between my outfit and the runway’s thumping soundtrack, I felt energized enough for a 100-meter dash.

The Sneakers and a Dress Outfit

There could only be one shoe for my busiest day: a Scandi-approved sneaker.

I’ve learned that you can wear chunky sneakers with anything at Copenhagen Fashion Week, even if you do n’t ride a bike to and from the shows. Midway through the week, on a day when I had six back-to-back shows and a few appointments before and after, I made the decision to follow the quintessential Scandi girl formula. I interpreted it as my own with a drop-waist dress I found on sale at Revolve and and and’s favorite styles because flouncy, high-volume dresses and sporty sneakers are an unofficial uniform here. I layered a T-shirt underneath for modesty ( I repeat: This was a work trip! ), but at home, I typically wear it with nothing but sandals.

The’ 90s Slip Skirt Outfit

This is the sort of understated outfit I’ll pack no matter where ( or why ) I’m traveling.

I turned to a wardrobe staple at home, the little black top and white skirt, when I needed to dress up for my lone late-night show of the week and dinner with editors afterwards. The stark contrast feels refined despite requiring maybe two seconds to pull on. A fashion friend once told me I looked like the ghost of in this exact combination, which I’m taking as a major compliment.

A little cardigan thrown over my shoulders added another tone to the neutral-on-neutral palette I was working with while keeping me safe from Copenhagen’s chilly after-dark temperatures. I also slipped my Manolo Blahnik mules back on for a finishing touch even though you ca n’t see them here. The more casual shorts, oversized button-downs, and sneakers I packed for work the following week really earned their place in my carry-on because they can be paired with them all.

The Elevated Jorts Outfit

Since Copenhagen Fashion Week ends this summer, I need to pack jorts.

( Image credit: Heidi Jones )

This summer, I evolved from a staunch anti-jort activist to the biggest advocate. ( I blame Hailey Bieber’s daily exposure while influencing Marie Claire‘s fashion news coverage. ) On my final day of work in Denmark, I styled my go-to Agolde pair with a large black blazer and a peony button-down. With the help of my and a straw bag over my shoulder, the vibe was a little business-casual-meets-beach—perfect for a final day of outdoor shows and coffee meetings when the energy started to settle down.

I’ll add that at Copenhagen Fashion Week, no trend is too controversial for a street style moment—and I saw more jorts in store for Spring/Summer 2025 on the runways at Marimekko, ÓperaSport, and Caro Editions.
