Bride Maintains’ Fantasy/Renaissance ‘ Dress Code for Wedding, Then Friends are Calling Her’ Bridezilla ‘

April 11, 2024

A person has been labeled a “bridezilla” by friends and family members after asking customers to dress the part for her’ Fantasy/Renaissance ‘ themed wedding.

In a detailing her position on Reddit’s”, the wife, 29, revealed that she and her companion, 30, are” large fandom nerds” who met at a renaissance good, and” wanted that to be part of our wedding.”

So, they opted for their design, a choice she says they discussed with friends prior. And, according to the bride”, people thought it was a great idea.”

So we sent out the offers and an accompanying letter explaining our intentions for a theme bridal as well as examples of what we wanted people to wear, she wrote. We included pictures, descriptions, resources categories that went from how to DIY a mask using old/thrifted clothes to simply direct out buying things online. In order to resolve any issues, we even asked people to reach out if they had concerns.

The bride-to-be noted that in an edit to her initial post, she and her companion stated that they “do not believe or want people to buy us marriage products” and that they “would instead they keep their money for themselves or use it for their clothing.

She also noted that the “low budget options” included items like” a typical floral spring /summer dress that many people already have, as well as items like a flower crown or belt or something else.

It’s quite lowkey, and I’m not very strict about it, she continued,” Not things like a cocktail dress, a bodycon dress, or a formal suit and tie.”

Many people have said they are looking forward to it, but others are not, according to the bride, after sending out the invitations and dress code.

The bride’s close friends informed her that some guests — including members of her and her partner’s family — began calling her” bridezilla” as a result.

The guests are” saying we are being unreasonable, that this is ridiculous, that they do n’t want to go if I’m going to get all up in arms over clothing,” she wrote.

Her mother- in- law and sister- in- law, are” especially pissed,” she said.

When I reached out to them after hearing about their names, they said I was ruined by demanding that people dress like idiots, and that they were lying. They said everyone should be able to wear clothing that makes them feel at ease, and they were being very controlling.

My partner advises me against listening to her, but there are so many people who do, she continued.

The bride claimed that the backlash was unexpected given the dress code’s openness and that she is “feeling pretty hurt by all this.”

She said,” We went out of our way to include pictures and suggest as many very low budget options as possible, but I assumed people would react this if I said everyone needed to go out and spend hundreds of dollars on costumes.” I honestly did n’t think it was a big deal, but I’m starting to doubt the idea of a themed wedding.

In the top- voted response to the bride, one Redditor said she is” NTA,” not the a—- –, noting that” people give dress codes for weddings all the time.”

” I know someone who had a Halloween wedding. Do you mind if I dress up for a wedding? No. Did I? Yes,” they wrote, adding”, Unless someone expects me to drop hundreds of dollars for a 1 time outfit, I’m doing my best to support their dream day.”

Another user claimed that the bride is not in the wrong but that they would likely not want to wear the dress code either.

” NTA but I hate this kind of sh– and would politely decline to attend your wedding,” the user wrote”. Be aware that not everyone wants to take part in this, therefore.

One user, who also” had a’ fantasy’ themed wedding,” said the bride and her partner should not have made the renaissance- inspired attire mandatory. At their own wedding, they wrote”, dress up was “optional but encouraged.'”

” Most people chose to dress up, some did n’t, everyone had a good time”, they added.
