Senator Rebecca Moynihan, the Labour director on climate change, is pleading with the state to uphold the right to clothes restoration.

” It’s past time for the government to take action to enact laws that give consumers more power and keep businesses accountable for their contribution to climate degeneration.”

” We need the government to quickly implement policies that enforce the right to fix clothes in the midst of Black Friday and the increased use frenzy.” This action not only aims to lessen the negative effects of rapid clothing on the environment, but it also encourages consumers to make responsible decisions while ensuring that businesses are held accountable for their contributions to environmental degradation.

” We heard this week about Ireland’s distressing textile waste situation, where a startling 93 % of used clothing and other textiles meet the fate of being dumped, incinerated, or exported, totaling an enormous 170, 000 tonnes annually.” According to this startling data, 35 pounds of fabric are thrown away annually for every person in the nation.

It is essential that we return the responsibility for repairing garments that wears within a year to significant fashion corporations like Shein, H&M, and Zara in the midst of the sales and overproduction frenzy driven by these companies. We must stop them from escalating Ireland’s jute spend crisis more due to their profit-driven motivations.

” The government may mandate the right to fix clothing, returning the responsibility to the quick clothing companies that are in charge of the vast majority of this spend.” It’s time to maintain these companies responsible for their negative effects on the environment and force them to make their products last longer.
