Women in my class started having to go through “dress coded,” receiving punishments, or degrading slip because of minor things like their pond bottom straps being too thin or their skirts being a little too high above the knee when I was in high school, attending a public school.
After refusing to go to the principal’s office and change her clothes after being dress-coded, one girl is facing backlash from her professor and colleagues.
She’s 15 and in great school. She was outfit- coded by her female history professor lately, even though the dress code is n’t always strictly enforced.
” It was also a very hot day, but I wore a pair of short”, she said.
” The law at my college is that our fingers have to go past the length of our pants, then, it’s out of clothing code. Now, I got up to turn in an essay, and my professor noticed that I was wearing clothes. He instructed me to keep my arms to my shorts while essentially telling the entire class that my pants were very small.
This was very uncomfortable for her, particularly because no one else, no a teacher or student, had noticed her clothes before. Plus, she believes her shorts were fairly modest, as they did n’t have any holes or rips and sat halfway down her thighs.
Of course, three boys in her class were also violating the dress code, wearing tank tops, shorts, and sandals, but her teacher did n’t say anything to them. Therefore, according to her teacher, she was instructed to go to the front desk and waited for her mother to give her a change of clothing.
” This was at the end of course, and we have a last coming up soon”, she explained.
“]The class ] was supposed to be a big review lesson, and I did n’t want to miss it. I’ve also not been sent to the company before, so I was really unhappy. I found it ironic that while learning about sex prejudices, I was being removed from class because I was a “distraction” to the other students. But, I said no”.
