At the NAACP Image Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night, Kerry Washington had no reason to be resentful of people wearing her stunning natural dress. The performer’s outfit, which incorporates a princess-inspired twist on the plain corset and floor-skimming train, would enrage viewers.
Fittingly, Washington’s dress came from a company known for their twisted passion, Vivienne Westwood. The emerald green hue was undoubtedly on trend too ( at the NAACP Awards alone, the likes of and all others wore similar leafy hues ). Of course, the plunging neckline and draped, fitted bodice were genuine Westwood—but what definitely provided a fresh flair to the attempted- and- real silhouette was a dramatic sash detail. Instead of just a regular train that emerged from the hemline of a dress ( do n’t worry, Washington’s look had one of those, too ) the piece had a similar design feature that extended from its bustier to the actress ‘ shoulder, and a few feet down the red carpet.
Washington allowed her Westwood masterpiece to stand alone. She opted for a disheveled updo, healthy, velvety glitter, and colored pumps, while her variety of Bulgari jewels proved to be the perfect voice.
Washington’s most recent looks comes just a few weeks after she hit up the Oscars after-party circuit in another jaw-dropping outfit. It appears that no one in Hollywood can leave the clutches of sheer fabric, with the exception of a strapless image accented by layers of lace and a little see-through detail sprinkled in.
However, despite some flashier details, Washington’s after group glance was more about image, and less about over- the- best details. There’s power in conjuring up something fresh on the red carpet ( like, say, a ) but there’s also something to be said for reworking typical shapes à la Washington.
